Career success is often due to professionals having the right Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours (KSBs). That’s one reason why apprenticeship providers must provide more rigorous evidence they’re embedding these fundamentals within their programmes.

They represent the core attributes an individual must have to be competent in the occupation. The KSBs must be met by the apprentice, evidenced and assessed in order for them to pass their course. KSBs were part of the old frameworks and they’re still part of the new standards, but how KSBs are evidenced and recorded has changed.

In the past, apprentices only had to provide evidence that they had met each KSB. But now Ofsted requires apprentices to prove they have built a deep understanding of each topic, or gained a good grasp of each specific skill over time. And that’s where eportfolios will help.

Recording KSBs 

Apprentices often appreciate digital solutions, which enable them to upload evidence of skill development, log reflections on what they've learned, and even use an offline app to record workplace behaviour.

Learner-led assessment

Another important part of evidencing KSBs – part of the new standards - is learner-led assessment, where apprentices continually evaluate and rate their own learning. To support this, we’ve created an evaluation scorecard where apprentices record a baseline score between 1-10 at the start of the programme, and update as they progress through their studies. 

We’ve also developed our learning journal so apprentices can upload evidence to support their learning, include reflections on the KSBs within each standard, and reflect on training as they go. 

Timeline of learning 

With OneFile, it’s much easier to track progression against learning or behaviours. Apprentices rate themselves in the scorecard, and as they go, our software plots data in a graph to show visually the progression of learning or 'distance travelled' over time. This scorecard encourages apprentices to regularly evaluate their knowledge, skills and behaviours.
