5 steps to ease back into term time

Term time is just around the corner.

But before you dive back into reality, here are 5 things to do to make Monday morning go smoothly.

1. Catch up with sector news

The sector doesn't stop during the summer break, and loads has happened over the last few months. Here are a few highlights you may have missed:

· The ESFA launched their new non-levy procurement process

· A major UK training provider hit the headlines

· The government released a new crackdown on employers underpaying apprentices

But that's not all. So to make sure you've got all the best stories for the staffroom, head to Explore – the ultimate resource hub for all things training. It's packed full of news stories, interesting articles and handy resources on all the latest sector topics.

2. Set targets for the new academic year

You may get fed up with targets during the year, but setting yourself something to aim for at the start of term is like rocket-fuel for your motivation. Check last year's reports and set individual targets for your assessors, success rates for your team, and learner retention rates. You can create SMART targets using an eportfolio and track your progress throughout the year – it's the best way to stay on track and smash those targets!

3. Treat yourself

There's nothing like a new pencil case to get you in the mood for school. So treat yourself – splash out on some stylish stationery. We're thinking sticky notes, highlighters, page markers, notebooks, gel pens, the works! With a cool collection of desk accessories around you, you'll feel like top of the class – and have fun while you're working.

4. Get organised

We say this to our students all the time – but do you practise what you preach?

Don't worry, we're not going to lecture you, just give a few pointers to keep your timetable on track. Buying a diary is a good place to start, as is updating your online calendar. If you use an advanced eportfolio, your schedule will automatically sync with your online calendar – meaning you won't have to copy and paste from one system to the other, and eliminating any duplication errors. It couldn't be easier.

5. Make the most of the weekend

We don't need to tell you twice, right? This is your last weekend of freedom before term-time begins, so make the most of it! Whether you want to max out on Netflix, or find your zen at yoga, make sure you're well-rested and raring to go on Monday morning.

Well done! If you've followed our advice, you're well on your way to having the perfect first day back. But what about the rest of term?

Maintaining momentum for months at a time is no easy feat. That's why we've created a checklist of must-dos to keep you on track throughout the year.

Stay on track
